Galactosyl-ß-sphingosine (d18:1) ("Psychosine") is a biomarker for the deficiency of galactosylceramidase (GALC) caused by mutations in the GALC gene.

The absolute amount of Psychosine in the vial was determined using quantitative NMR to have the stated value on the vial. The vial may have additional components but none are isobaric with Psychosine and none interfere with quantitation of Psychosine.
